Adult Treatment

What is the 'right age' for orthodontics?

Any orthodontic problem can be treated at any age. A spectacular smile, improved dental health, improved facial esthetics, boost to self esteem and maximize esthetics are some of the goals of people who seek orthodontic treatment. Age should not be a factor in seeking treatment and achieving these goals. These benefits are available to anyone—young or old. However, it is important to understand that age can play a significant role in treatment plan specifics. The biological process involved in tooth movement is the same in both adults and children. The health of your teeth, gums, and supporting bone is the most important factor in determining the best course of action. Because an adult's facial bones are no longer growing, some types of correction may require more than braces alone.

Presently, 30% of our orthodontic patients are over 18! While braces have typically been associated with teens, more adults every day are recognizing the benefits of orthodontics and seeking orthodontic treatment. Many adults failed to seek orthodontic treatment in the past because they viewed it as inconvenient, costly, or ill-timed. However, the development of modern technologies, faster techniques, more comfortable appliances, and flexible financing have all but eliminated those perceived obstacles.
